New composite front door issue

Options
Hi

Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place.

We just had a new composite front door fitted and it's great and we love it. However there's one small issue bugging me, but I don't know whether it's worth insisting on it being fixed. When we open the door, it swings all the way open of it's own accord and doesn't stay open as far as we left it.

I've spoken to the company who fitted it and they insist the frame has been fitted straight, even going as far as to send spirit level pics. They say it's due to a slight lean of our brickwork and to fix it may mean making compromises or potential issues elsewhere to the frame/door.

I'm no composite door expert, so hope someone could advise if this is acceptable or not and/or whether I should insist on it being fixed. I'm pretty sure no other door like this I've seen does this, and they're fitted on houses of all shapes and sizes, so surely ours can't be that bad and a one off?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Priyesh

The door is not fitted exactly vertical. This is bad fixing and the story about leaning brickwork is nonsense. The act that you have been told such a story suggests that the fitters are not to be trusted.

Sometimes the hinges can be adjusted to increase tension, have done this before to prevent the wind slamming a door.
alternative adjustable hinges may be available,so many door/hinge variations !.
Your installer has photos of your installation, maybe they noticed a quirk and took photos for their evidence.I would recheck the levels with a spirit level.
Could contact the door manufacture unless its made by the installing company.

Hinge adjustment should be an automatic part of the aftersales service.

In our case, we had wooden flooring fitted 8 years - yes, 8 years - after our doors and windows were fitted, and found that the wood wouldn't fit under the front door.

We rang our window/door fitters and they came out within 2 hours and adjusted the hinges to slightly raise the door. No charge, all part of their aftersales service.

Thank you all. To be fair, we chose this company as they're local and we've used them on 2 previous occasions with really good customer service and product.

They took photos because I was at work and we were struggling to find a time this week where I could be home and they could come back out. So the installation manager came round to see if he could see any problems from the outside, which he said he couldn't.

This is all moot now anyway, because tonight the latch broke so a locksmith had to come out and get me in (I know I know). The installation manager has already apologised and is coming out in the morning to fix it, so I'll make sure to get everything resolved.

    Thanks again all

This adds to my earlier post saying your fitters were not to be trusted. For a latch to break after only a few days use suggests the door was not properly set up in the first place. It is highly likely the latch was sticking or jamming and has now been forced open.

There is a reasonable likelihood the frame needs removing and the job being done again. If I were in your position I would be demanding this, and watching the fitters like a hawk to make sure they did this.

The "Installation Manger" coming out means nothing - this person will want to fob you off and minimise any chance of any remedial works. Which of course has already happened with the story of "leaning brickwork!"
