Temporary car insurance for US license

Hello,
I am looking for temporary car insurance for a friend visiting from California to drive my car here in the UK. However, I have been unable to find any insurance companies here in the UK who are prepared to provide cover for someone with an American drivers license. I've tried all the big companies such as Aviva (day insure), Sky Insurance (the comparison one) Confused.com, Direct Line, Liverpool Victoria, Privilige, Churchill, the list goes on..... They will only insure individuals from EU/Commonwealth countries. I've also tried to add him as a named driver on my existing policy but they have also refused. He has no points/offences and is not a young driver so it just seems to be the American Drivers License that seems to be the issue. Has anyone else had a problem with this? Thanks in advance.

US drivers licences are very easy to get - I had one when I lived there. I don't think you will find any domestic insurance to cover them - what about a US company to cover them overseas?0

Probably easier for your friend to extend his own US insurance to cover him to drive in the UK.0
