Sounds as if the battery blown, they expand when they do. I can't see a phone that age being worth getting a new battery fitted (even if anyone still does them).0

About 6 years too late.
A shame, the iPhone 4s was my favourite iPhone design.0 -
Well you can get a SE almost the same as a 4s but with the brilliant A9 chip.0

Throw it and get a 5S minimum - the support will be withdrawn for the IOS soon for 5C and below.0

If you decided to get a refurbished iPhone 5s iOS 12 is meant to focus on improvement and will be considerably faster than iOS 11.It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0

I am wondering whether your question is whether by "can anything be done" means you want to recover the data.
I guess the only way is to get a cheap battery replacement off ebay (they are crap and fake recycled but OK just to see if you can get access to the phone.
Then a quick backup to iCloud or Itunes, then as others have said get a new one.
I still have an IP4 that I use for a few apps, it was a hand me down that served me well0 -
If the battery has swollen then you need to be addressing it straight away as in extreme circumstances they can explode.

If the battery replacement is the option, I would recommend Replacebase, a reputable UK replacement parts supplier. You can get the original OEM battery as well as Repacebase brand battery:

I would buy the below inc handy toolkit (£5.40 + delivery)
