Challenging your debt

Hi!
Just wondering if any of you have heard of challenging your debt and what your opinions are?
I'm currently in a Debt Management Plan and have received information that I can use a solicitor on a No Win No Fee basis to challenge the debt and hopefully have it written of... sounds too good to be true!
The solicitor has said that when a Debt is sold to a Debt Recovery Agency, it is often not done correctly and can therefore be deemed unenforceable and written off.
Have any of you cone across this before?
