EON overestiming final bills ?

That is shocking
It is all very well to have estimated bills between meter readings but when you finish with a supplier it should be law that a reading must be taken, how hard is it to take a photo with a phone of meters?
To have a huge corporation make an estimate and then not have to be responsible once you have moved is a recipe for mess.
It can be very hard if you're not very mobile and the meter is in an awkward place, and impossible if you don't have a camera phone.
As pointed out above, buying a bit of electricity from the 'wrong' supplier doesn't make much difference in the overall scheme of things and approximately half the time would work in the consumer's favour.0 -
The supplier does not make up a reading, the industry independent organisation does that from previous history. This is done due to the reasons outlined by Hengus. The solution is not perfect but there are too many people who can't be bothered or are too willing to game the system. That is shocking

The present system works and when Big Brother forces us all to have smart meters, the process will change.
FWiW, I had an estimated reading on transfer for gas a couple of years ago that was nearly 1200kWhs out as a result of a 'cancelled' transfer. The estimated reading could not be disputed. I paid the losing supplier about £35 for gas that had not been consumed. Three months later, when the reading on my meter passed the estimated reading, I start paying again for units consumed. Up until that point, I only paid the new supplier the daily standing charge. The nett difference in cost was £2.34 which was re-imbursed along with an ex gratia payment for poor customer service. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
