Balance transfer onto wrong credit card

I have 2 Tesco credit cards, one (card A) with a large debit on it and one I just use for day-to-day spending (card B) that is paid in full each month. I was carrying out a balance transfer from Tesco to MBNA i.e. I was transferring the debt from card A to MBNA. However I gave MBNA the card details for Card B by mistake. I phoned up MBNA immediately (as in 10 seconds after pressing submit) but they said they could not stop it and I would need to phone up Tesco. I phoned up Tesco and they said they can't do anything and that MBNA need to do a balance transfer recall. Who is right there? I don't understand how it will work as MBNA are now going to give card B a large sum of money which doesn't even have any debit on it, so the card will have a substantial "credit" on the account. Tesco customer service advisor was really no help.
And yes I do know this was all my fault and being stupid for not doubling checking it was the right card =(

Thanks.

You'll have to rely on MBNA being generous and recalling it.

Otherwise you'll need to pay for a further BT, if Tesco offer it.

If not, ask Tesco to refund you the fund to your bank account or by cheque.

Failing that, you'll need to spend it off the card.

MBNA are stating that they can't do anything, that it is all on Tesco.

We weren't actually paying for it as it was no fee, and we can get another one to do the proper balance transfer off the other card A.

If not, ask Tesco to refund you the fund to your bank account or by cheque.
The advisor on the phone didn't seem to understand what I was talking about and this is my main concern- it will be nearly £2500 of "credit" on Card B, is this going to be realistically allowed?

Failing that, you'll need to spend it off the card.
I have done this before but usually it's been like <£100 of credit due to a refund going back on a card so it's quickly spent, compared to this large amount.

Thanks for your reply, I could repeatedly kick myself for this mistake.

It's against the t&cs, and Tesco had closed accounts in the past for it, but it tends to happen infrequently.

Call up Tesco once the balance transfer hits your account.

Explain it was a mistake and ask for it to be refunded to your bank account.

They will probably put a hold on this for about 7-10 days to make sure the BT clears before refunding.

Once they refund it usually shows up in your account the same day.

Then you can use this to pay off the correct card directly from your bank account.

I accidentally did a BT and also paid the same amount. They refunded without issue.

This scenario is what I'm really hoping for. Either that or they return the funds to MBNA (as MBNA have stated). I'm just worried that the large credit on the tesco credit card will be an issue as it is against the T&C's. Thanks for your reply, it should show up tomorrow and I'll take it from there *fingers crossed*

Most likely you deliberately make the balance transfer to the Tesco card thinking that you could put the account into credit and get the money transferred to your bank account and then when it all went wrong you made up the story of accidentally making the transfer to the wrong card.
You must admit that accidentally making the balance transfer to the wrong card is a bit far fetched.

Are you for real? Of course it was accidental. I have two tesco credit cards that look identical and I entered the wrong one in. That's hardly far fetched at all. I certainly don't want this stress that I've created for myself, but thanks for your helpful comments.
