Compliance officer home visit

Hi, received a letter last week notifying me of a home visit which will take place tomorrow. On the back of the envelope it was stamped single investigation unit.
I have read varying stories by googling compliance officer and it is just melting my head not knowing what this is for. I suffer from bad anxiety and depression and receive ESA support group, DLA low rate for both Care and mobility and housing benefit, I am single and living alone. The letter has made my anxiety really bad not knowing what its about and there is no point in phoning them as they will likely not tell me anything. The letter does not ask for any documents or statements, just proof of identification. The letter is as follows:

"We need to see you to clarify some information about your claim to benefit. The purpose of our visit is not to discuss any issues relating to your medical condition. It is important that you are available, as it may affect your benefit.
A customer compliance officer *name* will be calling on Tuesday 5th June 2018 between the times of 9.30am and 4.30pm. Please note we will not be able to state a specific time.
If you are unavailable or wish to report any changes in your circumstances, please contact me on the above direct line number before our visit. We will then rearrange the visit.
All customer compliance officers carry a confirming they are from the department of communities. Please ask to see their identification. The customer compliance officer may be accompanied at this interview"

    "Department of communities" ?

Is this suggesting the visit is relating to housing benefit ?

Are they just wanting to check that Mr A Somebody, the person claiming benefit at the address actually lives there ?

This might be why they only want to see identification papers.

If this is correct, I suspect the visit will be very quick, if you have identity documents to hand.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Who is the letter actually from?

Look at the name and address - top right hand corner.

    Are you in Northern Ireland?

If so, then this is probably it:

Sounds scary but if you haven't done anything wrong then you have nothing to worry about.

Just answer their questions honestly and provide any information they need.

We would just be guessing as to why they are visiting.

Just checked your profile and see you are in Belfast so check out the link I gave.
  • Compliance officer been, some rat made an allegation that I had a partner living here. Compliance officer was nice and just asked me to confirm my circumstances and sign a form.
