Have used techniques from http://www.acaraconcepts.com/soundproofing/soundproofing-ceilings/timber-ceiling-exposed-cavity/

just adding sound reduction material under the floor will not reduce impact sound from above,sound reduction is just sound reduction.

Have another look at the link,scroll down to the green section,it explains the procedure where the ceiling is already removed.
