Best place to sell a Laptop?

Options
What would be the best place to sell a 4 year old laptop?
It's been memory wiped of files, just a bit concerned using Ebay, as wouldn't feel confident posting it.

You could try Cash Converters etc as you know you'll get cash there and then?

It depends if you want the best price or just want it gone. Ebay would give you the best price, especially if you could send it safely but you are at risk of being scammed and posting it raises the problem of it being damaged no matter how well you pack it.

You could also use Facebook and other classifieds and do cash on collection but you still are at risk of being scammed.

The easy option is someone like Cash Converters or if it is worth a bit then going to your local auction house. You will get cash and it should be trouble free. However you won't get anywhere near what its really worth and the auction will charge you fees that will make Ebays look cheap.

Really the more you are likely to get for it, the higher the chance of there being trouble.

Local free-ads, gumtree, shpock. But expect time wasters and scammers no matter what you try. You need to be on your guard.

If its cash get a pen to check the notes are real and expect someone to turn up with no money and a sob story whilst pointing out flaws then hoping you will give it to them for free or pennies.

Put the word out through family and friends that your selling it.

    Thanks for the replies.
Today I got a quote from 2 we buy any laptop places and both came in at the same figure, which I thought was fair. Though I do expect for that figure to be altered, if/when they receive it!

Gumtree and facebook I gave up with smaller items, as had so many time wasters. it doesn't help where I am located as collection to certain people scamming or anything is fair game!

I may have to take a hit on the figure for a cash deal with someone like cash converters, though I know they will want to sell at a profit so be offering me much less.

Yes cash converter style places will offer less, but its cash in your hand. The places that offer to buy laptops have your laptop as ransom when they tell you its worth much less than the original estimate.

They need to make a profit also, because they will be selling it on also.

Precisely. That said, I did sell a damaged laptop to one of those websites and got the £45 I was expecting for it.

Thanks for the replies on this.
Going to re-approach cash converters next week. There was a little part missing, but I acquired that for a couple of quid from ebay and fitted it.
Now the Laptop is fully complete, good condition, working & comes with original charger.
It's very sell able, just a question of what they will offer!

Just to give a final update on this, used cash converters in the end. For this item I found the process very easy, and much safer than ebay.
Ok you do take a bit less, but I think I got near enough the same price I would on ebay after fees.
it's a much safer transaction for this equipment, if people are exploring selling IT stuff in the future IMHO!
