Decking stain on oil

I have previously been cleaning and oiling my decking, but this year was looking at trying a stain instead of oil. Can I just put the stain over the oil or do I need to remove the oil first? The last time I oiled my decking was about 18 months ago.

I've had a combination of stain and oil over the years on my 15 yo decking. but found it peeled a lot. I gave it a good jet wash earlier this year before applying water based stain and so far it's not peeled.
I used Screwfix 'no nonsense' own brand stain which is good value compared to the branded stuff
