Insurance Group Costs
Does anyone know of any information on the web detailing how the insurance cost varies according to car insurance group?
E.g. for the same inputs (age, location etc) how much would the insurance be for cars in say groups 1, 6, 11 & 16?
Is it a linear trend?
How far up the scale would you have to go for a group 1 price to be doubled?

I can guarantee that you won't get an answer to this, unfortunately because there is far more to it than just what insurance group a car is in.
Simple example - a 17 year old male in a Vauxhall Corsa will likely be far more expensive than a 17 year old male in a Mondeo or a Volvo. The Corsa is a far lower insurance group, but lots of 17 year old males crash them, making them higher risk compared to a Volvo or Mondeo.
The only way to know is to do a few dummy insurance quotes with different cars and see what makes a difference to you.0 -
My 3 year old Volvo, group 30, costs less to insure than my wife's 8 year old Nissan Note, group 10. Same insurance company, same drivers, same cover, same everything.

Bought a group 18 car and it was cheaper than the group 13 car I was looking at. A standard diesel estate was 50% dearer than the top spec turbo nutter sporty model.
Why is a 3L version of my car cheaper to insure than a 2L diesel?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Just do a few quotes based on the registration numbers of the possible cars you want to buy.

Insurance seems to have little logic.
I've just asked my insurer about the costs to move from a group 36 to a group 43 version of the same car, additional £7/month. Helps having full no-claims and 25 years driving experience though.0 -

Group 43? I thought there were only seven.
Maybe I'm a bit out of touch.0 -
Thanks all, sounds like it's not worth using as a selection criteria.0
