Sony rx100 iii brightness problem

I've got a Sony rx100 iii camera that I purchased used about a year ago.

When I take pictures in areas that are hit directly by sunlight the glare means the picture is covered in glare

    Can you share a photo showing the fault? Is the photo just black when there's sunlight? If the sensor had failed it wouldn't take any photos, I'm wondering if there's a fault with the lens mechanism that 'dims' the lens in brighter light.

    It just sounds like normal lens flare, have you tried using it stopped down (low F stop)? Looking online there are various ways of fitting a lens hood to the camera which should help.
