    Get quotes and find out.

Other info, do you have the knowledge and skill to inspect the repaired vehicle?

Cat S means the car suffered structural damage, which was deemed repairable.
If it was done properly, and the car is cheap enough, it could be a good buy, but tbh, having seen the sort of prices that salvaged cars seem to fetch, and knowing that the repairer is making a good profit, I'd want want the car fully inspected, before I bought it.

(when I was looking at "light frontal" cars a while ago, I couldn't even buy the parts second hand and get them painted for the difference between what the cars would be worth and the salvage prices- and that was without factoring in any work or "hidden" problems)

Very few insurers even ask if the car has been previously written off, so it will likely make little or no difference to your premium. A small number of insurers do ask the question or mention it in their assumptions - so read these carefully when buying a policy. Otherwise the only difference it makes to insurance is that if the car were to be written off again, your payout would be reduced to reflect the fact that the cat S marker reduced its value (and presumably the price you will pay for it in the first place).

As above you DO want to be confident that the repairs have been carried out properly - but that's for your own safety rather than anything to do with insurance.
