What happens to part year No Claims Bonuses?

I'm buying a new car on Tuesday and obviously need to get insurance. I currently have 3 full years NCB and am mostly through my 4th year (up in september).
What kind of NCB can I have? 3, 4, 4.5? Does it help to stay with my current insurer?
Thanks,
Si.

Is this an additional car? If you are selling the old car you can just transfer the policy. If you intend to run two cars for a while that will be a bit more complicated; you won't automatically get a discount for a new policy. Your existing insurer may be more inclined than others to offer an introductory discount. Keep or transfer the car that is more highly rated to the existing policy.0

The missi's is taking on the new car and will take over the insurance in july when she sells her car (old style mini anyone??!?).
So I guess it'll be best to transfer the new car (a 1.8 Mx5) onto my old policy and redo the old car (a 1.4 Clio)?0 -
It sounds like it. If your wife will sell that other car in July and then use this one you only need two months insurance by the sound of it. One or two insurers will do this (my father's would for a month when my brother came from Germany), but not very many. Maybe you could think of selling the Mini a little earlier and not needing these temporarily 3 policies between you.0

Unfortunately It'll be difficult to get it sold before July as we go on holiday next weekend.
We may just cancel the mini insurance and leave it on the drive and hope it doesn't get nicked.0 -
It sounds like it but it's worth asking if they'd cover it for theft risks until sold. It must be quite a common situation. I've never got very far myself, but as I say my father's insurers were helpful.0

We've had an extra car on a policy whilst it was being sold, a few times now. Generally the insurers have been quite reasonable about the additional premium. If you are a normal 2 driver, 2 car family, it's pretty obvious that you won't be driving 3 cars at once!0
