Satisfied Default Removal

Hi everyone - I need your help!
I was recently made aware of a default that occurred in February 2016 - I lived in a flat, thought I had satisfied all bills before I left, but apparently I didn't - they charged me for "ceasing services". The debt was sold onto Lowells, who recently found me at my new address to let me know I now owed them £120. Apparently they have been sending letters letting me know about this default to the address I left a long time ago. I was shocked, and didn't want any negative effects on my credit rating, so I immediately paid it off.

I am due to start applying for mortgages (after years of saving and getting a decent deposit together) early next year, but I checked my credit score and has sunk very low. I enquired as to why and they advised it was because of this default - paid or not it will stay on my file for SIX YEARS! That is another 3 years of not getting decent mortgage rates.

I wrote to Lowells asking them to remove it from my file, but was rejected. Is there anything else I can do to get his removed please? I am also not fully convinced that this cease charge by BT is legal!

Thanks so much in advance for your help everyone!:)

  • Nope. As it!!!8217;s a true representation of what happened.

Ignore your fictitious score and rating.

One default won!!!8217;t affect you that much looking for a mortgage if the rest of your file is clean - alternatively speak to a broker if you can!!!8217;t go with a high street lender.

It’s likely you did owe BT as they bill monthly in arrears, and if you didn’t provide a forwarding address then they would write to your last known address

No. It will drop off after 6 years.

But if you're facing another three years of not getting decent mortgage rates, there must be other things badly wrong with your files. A three year old satisfied default wouldn't have that kind of impact.
  • OK great thank you. I haven't applied for any mortgages yet - and there is nothing else wrong with my credit file, it's clean apart from this. I was shocked by the affect it had on my Noddle credit report.

I'll speak to some brokers - thank you!
  • What affect?

If you mean the score you can safely ignore that.

I’m sure it will go up again as the temperatures start to rise
