Do get a structural survey done though for your own piece of mind, as this is your property and should anything bad happen you would of been negligent in not seeking professional advice.

Not sure what would be the issue if the chimney was completely removed what additional supports you need, normally folks dont support the the chimney stack above after removing the lower part of it.

Do report back with some photos.

My mum's friendly roofer (who she genuinely considered a friend and trusted implicitly) told my mum her roof was rotting and needed replacing at a cost of at least £3,000. The chap I got in for a second opinion said a couple of tiles needed replacing, nothing more. That was 15 years ago and the old roof with a couple of new tiles is still doing its job.

When my parents bought their house they were told the roof was in poor condition and they needed a new one.

47 years on, the same roof is doing fine. As a fag packet estimate, a roof that hasn't been damaged and left unrectified should last about 100 years.

Roofers will tell you need a new roof like damp treatment companies will tell you you've got damp like insurance salesmen will tell you you're underinsured.

That's a horrendous story! She regarded him as a friend as well. It really beggars belief! Has our beloved nation turned into a "survival of the fittest" anything goes kind of society? Definitely it seems to me that things are changing and people are more selfish and more money grabbing than they used to be

That's what 13 years of Labour government does.

On the face of it, it sounds like you have a 'misrepresentation' claim.

Such a claim would entitle you to damages if successful. What those damages would be is an open question.
