AA Credit card unable to transfer balance

I am currently having a nightmare trying to transfer a balance off an AA credit card!
I tried Capital one first and they said they were unable to transfer a balance off an AA card as the bin range was not on their system. I therefore agreed to close the card and have my credit history reset.
I then took a CC out with HSBC and they initially tried transferring the balance under a AA MBNA mastercard and it failed. It turns out that in 2015 AA changed to Bank of Ireland so they tried it again with the Acc Number and Sort code they have stored on the system for AA BOI and again it failed. I then went back to AA and asked them to confirm the account details. These turn out to be Acc 9943016 (HSBC have this correctly) and Sort code 904616 (which HSBC have as something different). This issue has now been going on for 3 months and i am being charged a high level on interest on the AA card balance and can not get it transferred of through no fault of my own. Im fed up of being the go between in this issue when surely if HSBC spoke to AA and confirmed the details it would resolve the issue.

PS Word of warning to anyone looking at AA Credit cards, be very careful as both Card providers i have tried to get the AA balance transferred over to have not been able to do it!

  • I'm currently having exactly the same problem and wondered if you found anyone that would accept the transfer?
  • Have you thought of getting a money transfer card - then transfer the money into your bank account and pay the card off from there - problem sorted.

Must be something to do with the Bank of Ireland. People have a lot of problems with their savings accounts. Having said that, I have a Post Office credit card, which is also Bank of Ireland, and transferred a balance off it last week with no problem.
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

It is not a case of HSBC speaking to AA to get it sorted. The systems will not let them do it.
There are a few cards out there, that have the same problem.
We used to have a work around to do these. But it has now been removed as it caused a lot of work & problems.

Okay, had a quick look at the MSE article (https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/money-transfers/ ) on this, but you would still incur a small %fee when you make the transfer?

e.g. with Tesco: "Money transfer length & fee: Up to 28 months 0%, 3.94% fee"

So on a transfer of £1000 into your account, that will cost you a fee of 3.94% (£40), correct?

Yes, very similar to balance transfer fees.
  • Are there any that have a no fee for money transfers?

If there are then they'll almost certainly incur interest fees (i.e. no X months at 0%).

You'd have to check but I seem to remember reading that the Halifax Clarity card could be used for MTs with 0% fees. Of course, you could then BT from the Clarity card to your new BT card for whatever fee they charge (with some interest accrued on the Clarity card for however long the balance was on there)
  • Had a letter today from MBNA offering 2 rates - 0% for 20 months with a 4.5% BTF or 5% for a money transfer.
The alternative was 3.9% with no BTF.

I had the same problem when I tried to do a balance transfer from an AA card about a year ago. Mine was also intended to be onto an HSBC card.

HSBC said that the AA card showed up on their systems as a debit card.
