After about a year in the Slow Lane they decided to put turbochargers on them. I asked myself at that very point, if they can afford turbocharged diesel engine why did they not turbo charge a tiny (1.2) petrol engines which would still run rings around any diesel, performance and power wise but would use less fuel. Here we are 30 years later and the same thought has dawned on the government and the car manufacturers.
you probably guessed by now but I favour the petrol and better still a petrol hybrid electric
And to add, at the time it wouldnt have been anywhere near as economical as the diesel variant. Even now with £££,£££,£££'s since invested, a high pressure petrol turbo still doesnt match the equivalent diesel variant for economy.0 -
Do DPFs fail when they get older, regardless of if you ensure they can regen?
Got a similar scenario to the OP. Same commute (15 miles each way) but looking for a larger family car (Qashqai or C-Max size) that could occasionally tow a caravan in the future.
Don't want to spend more than £10k ish, A diesel engine would be the obvious choice here but I am reading so many scare stories about failing DPF's costing thousands to put right it's really putting me off!0
