I cant recall seeing it on the thread but the access road on the left of the house actually leads to the farmers house. It is effectively his private driveway.

Looking at old maps, the farm used to own the Persimmon site and earlier developments. The lane/track next to the house used to go from one road to another, passing both houses/farms on the hill. However, sometime around 1937-1951 the track was truncated at the top and the 1958 maps show it as two separate tracks (effectively tracks to the two individual houses). However, North Blackburn referenced a public footpath going through the site in 2017.

The boundaries also appear to have been changed at some point around 1937-1951 with a house built at the very bottom of the track and boundaries changed with that house gaining a chunk of the land. The 1954 map shows the boundary matching the persimmon site.

So purely looking at maps over the years (which is not foolproof) it looks like the farm partitioned some of the land off for a new house and gardens/paddocks etc. Then 50 or so years later, sold that land to persimmon.

The farm owner also is currently selling off 3 barn conversions at the top of the track who will be using that track for access. it looks like planning permission for those was not easy with objections raised and planning applications were withdrawn twice and finally succeeded on third attempt. (conversion of three traditional farm buildings into dwellings and demolition of four further outbuildings). As a different business is operating out of that address and the buildings looking to be demolished and converted and land being sold off over time, there doesnt appear to be much farming on that site.

Caveat to above is that they are snippets in time and could have been through multiple owners over the years and sometimes maps are not always accurate.
