Old Style Daily Friday 1st June 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone :hello:

Hopefully I have posted this on the correct thread today, and not on the previous days. I seem to be having more senior moments these days.

Yesterday turned out to be a lovely afternoon here, we didn’t get any of the forecast storms and I managed to spend the afternoon people watching in the park, then just before I came home I called into M&S to have a look at some sandals I had seen online. I didn’t like that sandals but came out with four loafs of soda bread for 20p a loaf so it was well worth calling in.

As it was so warm and muggy yesterday evening I didn’t fancy the casserole I had planned for dinner and ended up with a prawn salad. I think that I will have a rummage in the freezer for some fish for dinner tonight. There is some salmon I bought a while back in there somewhere. Knowing my luck it’s at the bottom of the chest freezer.

Happy holidays to RR, JackieO and Bella. I hope that you all have a lovely time.

TA I hope that you got some good advice from the dietician that you can incorporate into Mr TA’s diet.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning All

Happy holidays to RR and JackieO, have a fantastic time both of you.

Light cloud this morning, the sun is trying its best to come through but we have rain and thunder storms due this afternoon. This could be a good thing as I have only been doing jobs outside for weeks now and the inside could do with a good clean!

Just got off to sleep last night when the police helicopter put in an appearance for the best part of an hour, no doubt I'll hear what's gone on, there's a very fast flowing river nearby so hope everyone is ok.

Grass was cut last night, I put weed and feed on it so much of it is black to try to kill the moss. No doubt when it rains later it will start it growing again, last time I put that on I was cutting it every couple of days!

Sounds like you're making progress with your DMs garden Speky, lovely of you to help.
Pleased to hear your DM is ok Gers.

I'm off for a swim, went yesterday too but seem to have hurt my shoulder (probably with cutting the hedge) so I was a bit of a one armed bandit!

Happy Friday everyone, take care. XX

Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. What a bloomin' muggy night it's been. The windows were wide open but that was no help. We still haven't had any rain or storms here. Last night the forecaster said there was chance of a passing shower but it seems to have missed us and another sunny day is forecast. Let's hope June is just as nice as May has been!

Being that day again it's the Friday Tidy in store for me. It's too warm to do anything but a quick once over sadly. I also need to do a couple of wash loads and get that pegged out.

The Dietition yesterday was lovely. We were in with her about an hour! She gave us some good ideas but whether they will help remains to be seen. She also told us to ignore all the conflicting advice on the internet! She gave me a few recipe sheets and has promised to send some more through the post, and will ask our GP to prescribe Fortisip as well as the Aymes he is currently on. We had those about 3 years ago and found the vanilla one good for adding to things like rice pud, custard, cheese sauces etc.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all who want/need them. Take care xx

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy, overcast, dreich and dreary here, looks like it could start raining at any moment, but forecast is for overcast all day and maybe some rain later.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato, peas/veg. Not sure about tonight as having an electrician here all day to do a big job, not sure what time we'll have electric back on - feel very anxious about the work being done, but know it must be done so trying to stay calm and just let him get on with it once he arrives. It's one of those jobs we've been putting off but knew it had to be done at some point.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, got the jobs done in town and got home, did several loads of washing but it wasn't drying particularly well on the line, so some washing then had a short blast in the TD, ironing done also, then a quick go round with the duster and hoover. Also had a couple of jobs to do so went out in car and delivered one of those other was on pc.

I have a couple of jobs to do in a mo on the pc, as it's the 1st of the month - moving of money and paying etc. Want to get all this done - so if there's a problem with the electric I'm already sorted.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning hello.gif

My original order of dog food turned up yesterday, I had to sign for it. On DPD's website, t's still showing as signed for last friday. I rang PAH to tell them it had turned up and I now have two lots, he put me on hold and went to speak to his supervisor, came back and said I could keep the second lot for free :D

We had a lot of rain last night, the garden had puddles after about 15 minutes and it was still raining when I went to bed. There was some thunder and lightning too, it didn't last long but was quite impressive. There are a couple of roads that dip down under railway bridges, they were flooded but have height markers on the walls. At least one car thought it'd be OK to drive through, then got stuck – it happens every time there's very heavy rain, it's well-known that they flood (not too often, but often enough that everyone knows to avoid them). Even if you don't know, There Are Height Markers On The Walls!! There's always someone who thinks their car is a transformer and will suddenly be 10ft tall and able to cope :D

I had planned on doing some gardening today but I think I'll give it a miss, it's very soggy out there. I have some indoor jobs to get on with but I'm trying to spend more time outside every day, 30-60 minutes walking and some time weeding/planting/pottering with the chickens is doing wonders for my hip. It'll be a lazy day today (apart from the walk) and I'll pay for it tomorrow, lol.

Good Morning chums, just having a cuppa before I set off to pick my friend up from Dartford then we will be on our way to Warwickshire. The cottage looks nice so fingers crossed the weather will be as well.
Its my youngest DGS Mikey's 14th birthday today and the first one I have missed as I was there holding his Mums hand when he came into the world, but I shall speak to him on the phone a bit later. His next brother up Henry is 17 this Sunday so both of them will be missed but they enjoyed their lunch out on Wednesday and I have left their cards and present with their Mum. DD will have an expensive time in four years as she will have an 18th and a 21st together in the same week !!!

I am looking forward to my weeks break though and there is no WiFi where we are staying as far as I know so things will be quiet :) for a week .
But I don't mind and have got a couple of books that I want to catch up on ,plus we shall be out and about during the day exploring.

Hope everyone has a good week and the sun shines down on us all

    Cheers chums

    JackieO xxxx

Morning all, it's warm and damp here, but the sun is shining.

We are going away for the weekend, back on Monday. A friend's daughter is getting married tomorrow and we are going to the night do. It's about 30 miles away, so we'll take the caravan and stay the weekend.

Glad you got some positive advice from the dietitian TA, hope it works.
Enjoy your holidays, all those going away.

    Take care folks.

Have a great holiday all it will be quiet round here with all these absences :D

Another muggy night here last night but its pay back for all the lovely days I guess.

Im with TA for a Friday tidy today which also has to include an email tidy. I get into the habit of keeping them as new thinking ill deal with them later but somehow never get round to it. You wouldn't believe I have time management courses I run lol :o Also have a webinar to facilitate this evening so will have to squeeze housework all around that.

No idea about food yet this weather puts me off eating much so it will probably something grab and go later.

    Have a good day all:A
