Hotel in Manchester concert Old Trafford 16/6/18 one night

Hi All
Hope you don't mind me posting but I'm really struck at how expensive hotels in Manchester are on the 16/6. We are going to see Billy Joel and everything near the stadium seems fully booked I I'm not sure where else to stay is there a tram out there? Even if we have to walk back.

I'm happy to pay a reasonable price but £350 for one night for pretty standard places seems super expensive and I live in London so used to high prices. Thought about airbandb any suggestions please.

Any help much appreciated

Not sure when Manchester became overseas but I've just had a quick look at Travelodges and there are several in the Manchester area for that night for around £50.

To be fair, it is the only concert BJ is doing in the UK this year, so it's going to be pretty busy.

The Old Trafford tram stop is a short walk away, it's designed to handle huge crowds of football fans. From there you'll be able to tram to the city centre, and thence outwards to anywhere else on the tram route; so if you're prepared to travel, maybe look at the outskirts of Manchester on a tram route?

When you say 'hotel' are you looking for something 4* upwards, or a Travelodge style (this being MSE)? And for how long, given that the concert is on 16 June, I'd have though that was the harder night to book.

Thanks for the replies it's the 16/6 one night yes it's the big concert. No problem with Travel Lodge and yes happy to go by tram just didn't know where the line went. So do you think they will be running the tram on the Saturday after the concert?

Thanks and sorry for the date confusion

    Hi TallGirl

If you're willing to go a little further out, have a look at the Premier Inn - Manchester Airport (Heald Green) hotel. It's next to the Heald Green train station and here is a map:

    https://www.tfgm.com/public-transport/train/network-map

Scroll down to the bottom of the map, see where Manchester Airport is............and look to the right on the purple line and you'll see where Heald Green station is. Then look up the purple line to move towards Manchester city centre.

I've just looked for a double room on the 16 June and it's £78 on the saver rate.

I've stayed at this Premier Inn, it's absolutely fine...........and has free car parking.

I saw Billy Joel last year, he was fab. I have no idea why he has such an attachment to a fly swat but maybe he won't bring it to your concert. Enjoy.

Trams run till around 1am on Saturdays. You can see the exact times here: https://tfgm.com/public-transport/tram

Maps there as well - maybe look at a hotel somewhere out of town from Old Trafford, like Stretford, Sale or Altrincham, as then you'll be heading the opposite direction from the hoards that'll be descending on the tram stop after the concert. Sometimes you have to wait for several trams there after a big event if you're heading into town, but going out of town you don't.

Not sure how you're travelling to Manchester. There is the Britannia Hotel at Manchester Airport with availability for £75 . It's four mikes from Old Trafford.

I have attended a few concerts at Old Trafford over the years and used the tram no problem. The queue for the trams heading out of Manchester (towards Altrincham) is a lot shorter so maybe worth looking at hotels in that direction.
