Sorry should be:The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 (UTCCs) was replaced by the Consumer Rights Act on 1 October 2015.
Schedule 2 part 1 of consumers rights act,
 5. A term which has the object or effect of requiring that, where the consumer decides not to conclude or perform the contract, the consumer must pay the trader a disproportionately high sum in compensation or for services which have not been supplied.
 6. A term which has the object or effect of requiring a consumer who fails to fulfil his obligations under the contract to pay a disproportionately high sum in compensation.
I think its fair to say that forcing me to pay more than I would on the original contract does not follow the above terms...
Another point to make is that the router is 'mine', but why would I want it, its locked to BT, if I'm leaving BT what am going to do with it!!0

I don't think that you'll find that it is "locked to BT".
My old Homehub 3 certainly wasn't and I'm pretty sure that the HH5 isn't either.0
