The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 (UTCCs) was replaced by the Consumer Rights Act on 1 October 2015.
    Sorry should be:

Schedule 2 part 1 of consumers rights act,

    5. A term which has the object or effect of requiring that, where the consumer decides not to conclude or perform the contract, the consumer must pay the trader a disproportionately high sum in compensation or for services which have not been supplied.
    6. A term which has the object or effect of requiring a consumer who fails to fulfil his obligations under the contract to pay a disproportionately high sum in compensation.

I think its fair to say that forcing me to pay more than I would on the original contract does not follow the above terms...

Another point to make is that the router is 'mine', but why would I want it, its locked to BT, if I'm leaving BT what am going to do with it!!

I don't think that you'll find that it is "locked to BT".

My old Homehub 3 certainly wasn't and I'm pretty sure that the HH5 isn't either.

The latest is locked to BT, but you can use it on Plusnet because its basically still BT, but that's it.
