Paypal Refund to expired credit card

A few weeks ago I purchased as item that was not as described. It was sold as new but upon receiving it, clearly it was well used.
I have since opened a case returned the item and ebay have refunded me. This was 3 days ago and the funds are still not back on my credit card. My paypal account states I have been refunded but I have no funds in my paypal account.
When I purchased the item my credit card was about to expire the week after. Now my credit card has fully expired which would be when the refund was issued. Could this mean I don't get me refund as my card expired?
