I doubt very much if he has the money at all as both of the previous methods he has supposedly tried should work (although why you would allow him to deposit a cheque into your account rather than giving you the cheque to deposit yourself I don't know).

If I'm wrong and he turns up with £20,000 in cash then I would strongly recommend that he gives you evidence that he has withdrawn it from his own account so that you can provide that to your bank, as they will definitely ask questions. But I'd expect to see flying pigs before it happens.

I'm with agrinnall with this one.
If you ever do see the actual cash you may probably be better off banking it in smaller amounts £5000.00 at a time.
I don't think you are going to see it........

Opena new account with his bank.
Go with him into a branch of his bank .
Get them to do the transfer there and then.

    Unfortunately i suspect he's pulling a fast one. I hope I'm wrong./

I would be sure that you wont be seeing the 20k, if he paid a cheque into your account it would be shown on your bank account, that said if he had a cheque why didn't he just give it to you to bank yourself?

I hope I would be wrong, but I would say to do a transfer instead of cash as you will probably get questioned about the origin of the cash.

You should go with him to his bank to check the bank details and see him processing the payment? alternatively, you can make transfers of 25k online so you depending on bank he is with, you can get him to transfer the money within 2 hours and get him to send you a screen shot of the payment leaving his account.

I dont think he will pay up sadly as if he had any intention or there was an issue with the first payment, why would you then decide to go with a cheque (which can bounce) from a direct payment.

I hope i'm wrong but I don't have a good feeling sadly for you.

I think that your ex-boyfriend is a liar.

He almost certainly didn't make a faster payment into your account, otherwise you would have it.

He almost certainly didn't pay a cheque into your account, because most banks won't allow anyone other than the account holder to pay money in.

Has he shown you the £20,000 in cash?

Yes, your bank will be suspicious about a £20,000 cash deposit. Give him the correct account details and tell him to make a faster payment again. Alternatively, he can ask his building society to issue a banker's draft if he is incapable of making a faster payment (although they would help him with this too).

I'll say it again, I think that your ex-boyfriend is a liar. He has no intention of paying you back.

Really? Increasingly, banks are refusing to take deposits over the counter from anyone other than the account holder. HSBC and NatWest may not have gone this way yet.

It's amazing that responders don't know your boyfriend and yet accuse him of lies and deceit!

The destination financial institution doesn't really matter because all of them are bound by money laundering rules and are likely to react to a large cash deposit in the same way. In general the money must come from a recognised source. If it doesn't then it flags possible fraud and an investigation ensues no doubt accompanied by a locked account. The best way to avoid this is for the money to be transferred from a different bank account and the destination bank is likely to assume that the source of the cash has already been verified.
