Evans Halshaw not paying for car!

3 weeks ago I sold my car to Evans Halshaw and was told the funds would be in my account within 5 working days. After 10 days and much chasing they emailed me asking me to sign another invoice dated that day instead of the sale date (they’d apparently lost the original). I signed putting the original date but despite this the money still hasn’t been paid (23k). I’ve now had to pay another monthly finance payment on the car which is £200 of interest out of my pocket. Basically they have had my car for 3 weeks without paying a penny and are very difficult to get hold of. Have you any advice regarding my next course of action?

When I worked in the accounts dept of a garage if we bought a car with outstanding finance we would settle the finance for the customer & give them the difference.
Can you not visit them in the week as it's harder to ignore a physical person but easy to ignore a phone call.0 -
Stop phoning/emailing and go see them.0

Unfortunately I’m 2 hours away so not easy to do.0

you need to speak to a solicitor re breach of contact and also try to recover the extra costs. Make sure if any paperwork is re done it is the actual transfer date of the deal used and not the current date.0

For £23k it will be worth it!0 -
I’ve suggested coming inbut they said the problem is with their account department which is at ‘head office’ not at the garage in question. With 3 small kids in tow I’m not keen to have a 4 hour round trip for nothing although I appreciate your reply.0

you're paying £200 of interest per month???0

You are now financing their forecourt stock for free. They will love you for this.0

I'm no expert but this stinks. Make the trip but just before you arrive, feed your kids a shed-load of Haribos or something else full of E numbers and encourage them to run riot in the garage. And announce in a VERY LOUD voice to anyone entering the place how they owe you £23k and won't pay it back.0
