Hi,
Cambridge will be my new place of work soon so I am thinking to rent out a house in Peterborough as it is very affordable around there but I am struggling to find the best and cheap route to commute from Peterborough to Cambridge?
Bus route seems to be cheap but LONG (2 hours / one way) and Train route seems to be quick but expensive (£20 per day trip)
Any suggestions?
Many thanks.

Not an easy journey. Have you looked at Royston or Baldock?0

Buy a dirt cheap runaround car
Move closer
Get a bikeSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Downham Market is affordable. £12.70 peak return on the train, which takes 40 minutes.0

use Nationalrail.co.uk season ticket calculator. http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/seasonticket/search0

and this is a property related question.....?
But the most economic and environmentally friendly answer is..... a bike.0 -
Try looking at Ely - train from about £7 return, cheaper with a railcard.0

Car travel simply won't be viable. The A14 is horrendous. As suggested, you'd get a season ticket if you were travelling daily (your employer might even offer loans for this purpose).

Id be looking at either Huntingdon or st.ives..both you could use the Guided bus service.
Peterborough is an awful place...avoid it.0 -
Peterborough is AWFUL. Keep out!0

If you're working in Cambridge why on earth would you want to live in Peterborough? It's miles away and the commute is a pain. Some good suggestions above.0
