I know this is probably a no-no, but I'm going to take a chance.
Is there a way of extracting sound from a Youtube video to use as a ringtone?

If it's possible, can I have instructions in words of one syllable or less, please?

An easy way would be to play the video on your pc and use your mobile phone to record the sound, assuming your phone has the ability to make voice recordings.

    Hi
    There's a website called youtubehack.
With this site you input the URL of the youtube page (use copy and paste) then you download the file as a video file or just as the mp3 soundtrack.
Once you have it on your PC as an mp3 then you are in a good position to change it into a ringtone.

Also Zamzar will do the same thing :-http://www.zamzar.com/

You can get sound recorder programs that will record what your pc is able to play to you and save it to an mp3 or other file format of choice. However these are pretty pricey. Although rjm has suggested using your mobile to record it, the quality won't be as good.

It depends on how many times you will use the software to warrant paying for it. If you like listening to internet radio stations from different countries and genres, then yes i would suggest purchasing, but if it's just for the odd song here and there... it don't work out worth you while.

Good luck in whatever try choose to do.

You can use audacity's free software for recording and editing sounds

There's a tutorial for making ringtones on the audacity wiki http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tutorials
