can't log-in to my msn homepage/email

hiya
can anyone help or is anyone having the same problem today?

also it was the same last night

the broadband connection is working ok (hence i can post this!)
but i cannot sign in to my normal msn account, which means i can't check my emails

i'm in here via the tesco.net/internet explorer thing, however i have also tried logging into my ebay and my tesco.com account, and it just goes to 'page not found'

i have tried going to msn.co.uk then logging in from there, but it then says 'page not found'

it seems to be whenever i need to login anywhere (although it's let me login here so i dont know  )

(please dont let it be another virus !)

does anyone know what this problem is or what i can do?many thanks

What OS and Browser are you using ?
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

    sorry, what is 'OS' ?:o
    (you'll need to speak slowly in not-very-technical terms, sorry!:D :o )

    also, to add:

when turning the computer on, it gets to my desktop page ok, then a box comes up with a red circle with a cross in it , it says the following:

"Application failed to initialize 0x800106ba . A problem caused this program's service to stop. To start the service, restart your computer or search Help and Support for how to start a service manually "

ok, so i have restarted the computer, its made no difference, also i have searched in Help and Support but i cant find anything telling me what to do.

OS - what version of Windows
Browser - Internet Explorer, Firefox or Opera

The other error doesn't give you any clue to what program it is? Has it only just started happening?

OK start Internet Explorer as normal and click on 'help' then 'about' and then post which version of IE you are using.

Then click on the start button, and then 'run' type in eventvwr and click OK that will bring up the event viewer, double click on application and see if there are any entries with a red circle with a cross in them and the word error. If there are double click and then post the details.

right, i've looked in eventvwr, there is an error

    Msi installer User;system Category:none Event 1024 25thoctober

    "microsoft.NET framework 1.1 update
    '!!8D1DDE9A-C799-4D28-9E29-0061D1E66E43}' could not be installed
    Error code 1603

(there is also a yellow triangle exclamation mark warning:
Userenv User:system Category :none event 1517

both of these are there every day going back a few weeks, yet the pc has only 'warned' me and caused a problem last night and today, dont know how relevant that is)

    thanks for the instructions

Something is accessing the registry preventing Windows from saving your settings and shutting down. Could be your anti-virus, printer driver/service or something else. See http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1517&eventno=1206&source=Userenv&phase=1
