To claim or not to claim?

Hi
My darling daughter accidentally spilt water over my Macbook. I turned off immediately and kept it upside down for a few days and took it to the Mac store to revive. Unfortunately, the damage was done to the screen and not the hard drive. I can retrieve the data but the repair cost for the screen is £850 (near price of a new laptop)
I checked my contents insurance and I only have limited accidental coverage. Can I still claim for this accident/loss of contents?
I've heard that if I make a claim and it's unsuccessful that not only do do I not get the money, but the fact I claimed will affect my insurance next time I renew. Is this true? And if so, is it worth me claiming at b all?
Thanks

It is true a claim (whether paid out or not) will be classed as a claim and will affect future premiums.
We can't say whether you have a valid claim as we don't have the policy details to read.0 -

Should you attempt to make a claim, the unit will likely be taken away for inspection to see if the damages are consistent. If economical to repair, it will be carried out by your insurer's authorised repair centre which may or may not be Apple-certified.
Financially, factor in your policy excess fee for a successful accidental damage claim, and run some dummy quotes online with or without the claim to assess any premiums increase, and work the maths out from there as to whether it is likely economical.0 -
Define - . What exactly do you mean by "limited accidental damage" cover?

Alot of home contents policies will include accidental damage cover to things like electricals and computers without having the full extended AD cover for all items in the house.0 -
Take it to a local computer shop.
I sat on my laptop a year or 2 ago and broke the screen, £75 to get it fixed.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
