Hi all
Have just had a new light socket installed and now we need to make good the plaster where the cable has been channeled into the wall. problem is we dont know how. whats the best way of doing this? the area is about 10cm by 80cm long and 10cm deep, with a deeper hole at one end.

This should not be too difficult.
If you look here Plastering and click on the patch repairing plaster link you should find out how to patch it up.0 -
When we moved into our house we had to have it completely rewired so you can imagine that we had about 4 of these chanels in every room.
They are very easy to repair.
Contact or go to one of your local building suppliers and buy a bag of "browning". This basically a bag of ready mixed plaster. Unlike finishing plaster, it is meant to be thick and bulky and suitable for filling substantial holes.
Mix and apply this, and then just skim over with a small coat of filler.
Should cost you no more that £15 and save you a lot less than a plasterers wages.
We were lucky in that our electrician did most of ours for us but I have done quite a few since."This time next year Rodney, we'll be millionaires"0 -
as said, these are reasonable easy to repair
Firstly mix some pva with water then apply to area with a brush give it a good soaking then apply backing plaster
thistle Browning[ red bags] is a suitable backing plaster, mix it fairly stiff apply fill it flush with existing plasterwork, then leave to dry at least two hours before applying thistle multi finish,[orange bags] there are some good instructions on the side of the bags of plaster as to how to apply and use,
hope this is of some help.0
