Hello!

My parent shave a rental property, for which they have annual boiler service. Currently its with British Gas.

Are there any other places we can look into for a cheaper cost? Not familiar with what else is out there, but any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jay

(ps - I hope I've put this on the right section)

Are they the LL or the tenants in the property?

As a tenant it is the LL's responsibility to provide an annual gas safety check.

If they are the LL's then any gas registered trades person can carry out the GSC and a service annually.
A local company is likely to be cheaper than British gas.

A GSC also called a CP12 should cost in the region of £70 a boiler service similar cost although sometimes if done at the same time cost will be reduced.

google heating engineers in the local area and it should bring up plenty of options to investigate.

    Thank you.
    Yes there are tenants there.
My dad has been paying £28 p/m or something silly for boiler cover, was hoping to get something cheaper on a monthly basis.

Also, the council have started to offer annual gas service for £60+VAT - is that a good deal?

    Thanks,
    Jay

As a stand alone product or service that's not a bad price but all rented properties require the CP12 certification as law a gas service is not the same and not to be taken instead of.

Do they have an annual CP12 completed?

I believe they do with British Gas.

Also, here is the link to the council offer:

    Point 1, d - I suspect this relates to the CP12?

As tenants both the annual safety check, which is a legal requirement, and maintenance are the landlords responsibility.

As a tenant he shouldn't be paying anything.

    Hi,

Sorry - I should have explained better.
My dad is not our tenant, its his property which is being let out through agency. So tenants are not paying for these maintenance + safety checks etc.

We were wondering if there are other companies other than British Gas who can provide home emergency cover for boiler issues/leaking pipes/electricity etc, than my dad having to pay £28 a month just for boiler cover.

    Thanks,
    Jay

    Thank you Hengus and Shavuot.

I will look into this tonight.
Last year, Thames Water sent through a cover offer with HomeServe - are they any good?

    Thanks,
    Jay

There is a big thread on here about Homeserve which is not especially complimentary. If there is a good local person who charges say £130 for a service and safety check then your father could put aside the rest (just over £200) towards any necessary repairs. The trick is to find someone local who is trustworthy.
