'Caller i/d' installation

Quite some time ago I recollect Martin advising on a free 'Caller i/d' installation for home phones - can anyone recall the item and how it was effected please ?

BT offer CallerID virtually free via its BT Privacy at Home option.

However, do note its necessary to make an average of 2 calls/month via BT to not be charged for the service..

    Hi Sunhil,
Thanks for this info - however, as am using the Orchid Autodialler for the 'Heinz' dial-up routing system thus by-passing the BT system, then I guess am not eligible for the '2 calls minimum' requirement you specify to avoid a BT useage charge ?
    Thanks anyway.

I can't remember offhand if that program routes any commonly called chargeable numbers via BT -assuming it doesn't..

All you have to do is prefix two calls a month with 1280 before calling them. This will overide the Orchid Autodialler - just for these calls - and send them via BT instead - this allowing you to avoid their charge.

If you do this for two short (less than 1 hour!) 01/02 calls in the evenings, BT will charge you a total of 9p/month
