    Hi Rog,

That was an excellent post; not that I would have expected any less.

Taxation is not an art; it's science. If you didn't earn enough to justify what the HMRC claimed you did, and you can prove that, then they're obliged to compensate you accordingly.

I realise that you probably can't afford the services of a taxation accountant or to even consider legal action, but surely there is a friend or family member that could help.

I also appreciate that you want to put the past behind you, and that is exactly the way I view my mistakes but can you really afford to put this behind you; it's a battle that you can win. I know two people who were declared bankrupt by creditors; one a bank, the other HMRC. Both were later compensated generously because the creditors were basing their actions on flawed figures. This was over 15 years ago when the bankruptcy regulations were much more rigid than they are now.

    Best regards

    Rich

What a nice bloke you are. I've been telling everyone i am going bk, and some people's reactions have been typical. they seemed to like me when i was doing well, and not so now i am insolvent. thing is, you are a lovely man, and no matter how matter creditors bang at that door, or have blackmarks youhave againist your credit rating - no one, no place, and no time can take away what people like you, and others on the site, bring to other people. you a good business man obviosuly, (the best always have trouble) and maybe you should do something 'worthy' of you talents and make the world a better place. success isn't money. success is being nice.

  • I meant to post here days ago, but kept forgetting what with the site having its problems.

Rog, I'm so pleased you made it through to the end of the year being able to maintain an air of positivity while still being able to also be honest & aware that certain organisations will push for what they want regardless of whether they're right/fair or not. Sometimes justice is not seen to be done, but you've managed to carry on nonetheless. :)

I must add my thanks to you here. You've been a real help to me even when you haven't known it - I'm sure that goes for loads of others too. I've learned loads from your posts, & it's to your credit that, despite getting an ED so many months ago, you've stuck around to help those who really do need your help. Though it might not seem like it sometimes, I don't think being made BR will set you back for life - you're strong, a fighter & a hard worker, otherwise you wouldn't have been able to be self-employed in the first place. All the best for the future - you really deserve it. :)
  • Bumping to the top ;) You are very right when you say we have similar stories. I do think the HMRC pick on easy targets. Something in the middle of this thread intrigues me about "compensation" ;) maybe not now, but given time, I may just look into this. I feel that the fact that I had been paying PAYE for most of the period leading up to BR seems to have been totally overlooked.

Sure I had not filled in the forms, but there were plenty of reasons NOT excuses for that.

I am glad that you came through, and that you have your home. I have not owned a property since 1999, but hope to get back on the ladder once the next three years are over.

I am sure like most of us on here, we will not make the same "mistakes" twice, or at least be in a better position to halt any slide before it gets too slippery :p
  • Rog, that post has brought a tear to my eye and a big lump to my throat.

I sincerely wish you all the very best for the future, you and your family deserve some happiness now.

    All the very best,
    Scarlett xx :)
You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that :p
