Buying gift for daughter.

My daughter is 18 next month, she wouldn't really be impressed if i gave her something to put on display. I have bought her a silver necklace which she chose, i think it's pretty pointless buying something which isn't going to be used. I wouldn't worry about how much it may be worth, for me it's about sentiment and memories rather than value. If you want her to have a nest egg for emergencies, put money in a savings account for her. Less risky than trying to predict future values of things.0

I'd agree that saving £'s for her will be much more worthwhile than buying a "thing".
Have you nothing of yours that you can "put by" to hand down to her later on.How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
we are putting money away each month for uni/car/house deposit anyway. that sort of thing. I just wanted to buy something that had a connection to the year she was born. There will be plenty of time to buy jewellery further down the line.0

You could try and source a copy newspaper from the day she was born, or make a download playlist of the top 40 . Nothing of monetary value, but definitely date related.
Who knows what she might or might not appreciate or 'get' once she's 18!!! The world will probably be a very different place by then. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
I did buy a paper at the hospital and its in her wardrobe. I was fairly busy at the time so i've never read it. Tbh I dont think there was anything paticulary news worthy at the time, probably more brexit negotiations. I guess that with hindsight it might be interesting in years to come when we see whether brexit was a good thing or not, but thats an entirely different conversation altogether

You don't say how old your daughter is but if you want something that will go up in value, if for example she,s 17,why not buy 17 shares in one of the big companies on the stock exchange? Held long term, they will hopefully increase ore in value than a coin or some other such memento0

She was.I think she was born last year.
I'd say that the buying fees for 17 shares may make an investment like that very expensive.0 -
