Feeling so stuck with my house

You have all been so understanding and helpful...thank you. I think I probably need to move away from the north east because I just haven’been able to get a job. I’ve tried for hundreds of posts and have got transferable skills/experience but was an academic and am not sure if the doctorate may make people feel I am not too useful. I volunteer and have worked outside of universities but I don’t get replies from applications such as at shops or charities. Oh well, enough about all that! Maybe PhilE is right...I could volunteer abroad and travel, although I haven’t much money since it all went, stupidly, into the house. Thanks everyone for your kind words.0

Have you tried leaving the doctorate off the CV?
It's not that people don't think you have transferable skills, but they probably think for some less academic jobs such as shop work that you won't stick around. I found the same, and was asked the question directly once or twice.
Try tailoring the CV a bit more if you can.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I have tried but then get asked what I’ve been doing...academic research. Will revise it as suggested and see. Fingers crossed! Big thank you.0

In an area where the OP can`t find work and is fed up with his over-priced house already it is very unlikely to rent to long term tenants at 1000 p.m0

No mortgage. Used all my cash...silly but true. 3 beds, 2 bathrooms, apartments here rent at £800 to 900 for 2 beds. I can’t get work but my neighbours are bankers, lawyers and a footballer, so it isn’t that the area is that undesirable...just I probably bought the wrong house type: there are only about 20 and the ones that sold have glass balconies and are upside down, if you see what I mean! Mine is a mews type and more conventional looking but has a patio backing onto woods and we have access to 37 acres of private grounds. There are 4 more like mine and they’ve not sold, although there may be extenuating circumstances in that the sales person has fallen out with most people she has dealings with (including all my neighbours). Again, thanks for looking at my posts...you’ve all been really helpful.0
