I AGREE TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS COMPETITION, AND TO BE SIGNED UP TO SQUARE MILE'S NEWSLETTER, WHICH INCLUDES THE LATEST INTERVIEWS, ARTICLES, GUIDES AND PARTNERSHIP MESSAGES.
Thought they arent allowed to force you to sign up to newsletters as a term of entering a competition under the new regulations. Tut tut. Im sure this wont be the last.0 -

The problem is if you start reporting these companies for such things, they’ll stop running competitions so probably best to tick the box and move on.0 -
I think that they are allowed to make it a condition that you have to sign up to enter the competition, lets face it, this is how most of the sponsors make their money, but then you can unsubscribe at any time once you have entered.
What annoys me more is that for the last week I have received hundreds of emails, some of them from the same companies on a daily basis, asking me to give my permission for them to keep sending emails. I have ignored them all thinking that this was an easy way for me to unsubscribe, but I now find that after the deadline for the new GDPR to come into effect I'm still getting emails from about 25% of them. The bitter taste of poor quality lingers long after the sweet taste of cheap price has faded away. :wall:0 -

The main thing that has changed is it must be made clear what happens to your data and you must consent to it - There is nothing to stop getting you to consent to all sorts of things happening with it as long as they are clear about it and same as always, the "opt-out" is not to enter.0 -
According to this https://superlucky.me/gdpr-competitions-and-compers/:
A prize draw entry form with By entering this prize draw, you will be subscribed to our mailing list and can unsubscribe at any time in small print below will no longer be permitted.
Entering a prize draw and joining a mailing list should be treated as different actions, and not combined, the entrant completes a form to enter the prize draw (and accepts the T&Cs), then if theres an option, they can choose to tick a separate box to receive further information.
So, prize draws where you cant enter without ticking a box to opt in will no longer be allowed.0 -

There is nothing to stop there being a "reward" for signing up to a newsletter, doesn't matter if that is some sort of discount, entry to a competition etc. It is also fine to run competitions only open to newsletter/e-mail subscribers.0 -
