Barclays Account

I was just in my mother's Barclays account, trying to make a payment, a standing order to one of her other accounts. I get the following message:

9802 - Sorry - you do not have any accounts from which we can set up a payment.

Does anyone have any idea what this means. She has only recently opened the account if that helps, I set up her online banking credentials so can access the account OK, it just won't let me make payments. I'm going with her to a branch tomorrow so she can show them ID. Is it something to do with this or is it something we'll need to sort in branch or over the phone?

Thanks.

Trying to set up a payment? Or make a payment to a payee already set up? Is this the first payment you/she has tried to make?

Ask when you're in the branch - but it could be pin sentry/card reader related.

A lot of people have this issue when they first attempt an online payment with Barclays.

I resolved it by phoning and the operator set up the payee over the phone and made the first payment. After that it worked fine from online.

I have the same problem with my new Current Account.

Rang Barclays yesterday and was told it was because my account was so new and my switch had only just completed, and to wait a few days for it to right itself.

When I went in branch to prove identity they set up a payee for me so I could extract money. I am assuming they could set up your SO for you. Once you get the card reader that shouldn't be a problem (assuming you have ordered one.)

My wife faced the same issue today. She called the bank, they set up the payment manually and gave her a new 'membership number' for the internet banking login. Since then, everything works fine.
