So why don't the insurers want me to know?

For the same reasons you don't expect people to go walking round showing everyone your bank statements and wage slips, its none of your business.

Look at it this way. If you had a supermarket and were negotiating with manufacturerers, would you expect them to tell you what the big supermarket chains were paying?
The bodyshop might fear everyone else is going to demand the same discount the big buyers get.

The bodyshop were happy for me to find out. They say its the insurer who isn't.

Discounts would be difficult to identify, since no two jobs are the same.

Anyway, is there really a discount? Non-insurance jobs seem to cheaper.

I had a non fault claim with Direct Line and was given a copy of the invoice with break down when I collected my car.

It took them exactly 2 months to repair the car but that's another story.

Exactly the same for me regards the invoice.
The accident was my own stupid fault and it was fixed within a week

Yet if you declare a previous accident, they want to know how much it cost, which is the one thing that they will never tell you....:wall:

My insurer told me the full claim amount without issue. I was with endsleigh at the time. Some insurers must be different.
  • Same here. I wanted to know final repair bill but was told it was 'confidential'. Then when I have to get an insurance quote they ask about previous incidents and 'value of claim' so I can only guess; mad!
