Lunch break during refurbishment

Options
Hey - has there to be a lunch break by law during a refurbishment so other residents are not disturbed?

Thanks

The workers will probably have to have some kind of break by law, depending on how long they are working. But there is nothing that says they all have to go on a break at the same time.

Look at it this way, the more breaks they take the longer it will take to complete the refurbishment, so the longer you will be 'disturbed'.

As long as they are sticking to any planning conditions regarding working hours, then that is all they need to do.
  • At least 20 minutes if doing a 6 hour stint - if my memory serves me right.

People eat lunch at different times, so even 30 mins at 1pm won't help neighbours who like their lunch at 12pm or 2pm. Plus even if individual site workers need their min. 20 min break they don't all have to take it at once.

If you are worried about specific neighbours have a chat and see if you can accommodate them, but there's not usually a fixed requirement.

Lunch breaks are for the benefit of people working, not other residents.

There may be conditions attached to planning, indicating working hours on weekdays and permitted times at weekends, or there may not. I spent 3 years on a refurb and the council didn't set conditions regarding working hours.

Any conditions will be in the relevant planning documentation, available on the council's web site.

There are strict conditions in London but there is no enforced lunch break!

Wish my builders were robots, they would not need a break ever

Assuming their batteries did not require recharging... Hope they all have orange eyes, otherwise "steer clear."

Yes. It's also mandatory to have a correctly laid table, with a starched white table cloth. Silver service is optional. Reckon on 1/2 bottle of wine per builder, perhaps a full one on Fridays.

And a nice fat Cohiba for the site manager.

I love this! I'm going to petition the FMB.
