In the very heart of pretty Blanchland with its honey-stoned cottages, cobbles and flower-filled tubs, the Lord Crewe Arms has gained a well deserved reputation as a haven for foodies and country lovers. Formerly the Abbot's lodging of a 12th century priory, it has evolved into a luxurious 21st century posh-pub/hotel with country manor feel, oozing atmosphere at every turn with stone flagged floors, vast fireplaces, oak beams and intriguing historic features. Mirroring the landscape, the luxurious interiors present a relaxed feel; gorgeous fabrics, weaves and textures, occasional antiques and quirky objets d'art. The hotel's sumptuous bedrooms are spread between the main hotel, pretty converted miners cottages next door and a former temperance inn opposite, and have lots of lovely little homey touches such as complimentary handmade fudge.

In the kitchen, Chef Simon Hicks brings skilful and honest cooking using top quality seasonal produce from across the region including the results of gardener Pete's hard work fresh from the bottom of the garden. Think sharing feasts, dishes to drool over and innovative vegetarian and vegan choices too. Relax over a drink or two in the Crypt Bar with its amazing vaulted ceiling, or outside in the ancient walled garden soaking up the long distance views of the Pennine Hills. Dogs are welcome too.

Prize terms and conditions: The winner will receive two nights accommodation with dinner on each evening and full Northumbrian breakfast for two people sharing a double or twin bedroom. The prize is valid for Sunday through to Thursday nights and must be taken by 21st December 2018. Drinks and extras should be paid for on departure.
