Wow people are very touchy ..

Uxb: as per my previous post I have explained what the second person suggested and have an appointment to change the meter.

Shavuot: Luckily, the account is in my fathers name (as are all the bills) and he is very much on board with me dealing with all of the accounts and I am named on them all. it was him that actually told me about the situation so please do not try make me feel bad for querying my parents bills and "going against her wishes"

And yes I am very much aware of what the supplier is doing, the meter is a smart meter which is also in their best interest, and they are keeping the direct debits as is until they have a better understanding regardless the rate isnt changing so how they choose to read the usage neither of us care.

In all honesty, I wish I never posted this, I'm not sensitive at all but these comments are just unnecessary and far from helpful.

I am still slightly concerned that you have not solved the mystery of the high consumption. Putting in a new meter - smart or not - isn't going to provide a definitive opinion as to whether the old meter is faulty. My guess is that, after three months of summer usage, the bill will stand as the supplier does not appear to be taking any steps to test the meter that is being changed. Testing would incur a charge if no fault is found. You would have been apprised of this when the offer of a meter change was made.
