Hit by a Car Advice?

Options
On Wednesday I was hit by a truck whilst stationary at a set of lights.

As I got out of my car I saw that the truck had no number plates which of course made me worry.

I expected the driver that hit me to drive off but amazingly he got out. My heart again sank when I tried speaking to the driver as he couldn't speak a word of English - but eventually he got his boss on his mobile.

I spoke to his boss and all he would give me was a mobile number for me to call when I got the bill for the damages. With hindsight I should have of course have called the police but the damage didn't look too bad and I thought it would only come to £50ish and I could write it off.

However yesterday I took the car to the garage and the damage is £425 because the wheel arch has been dented pretty badly.

I decided to try the mobile number that I was given and amazingly got through to the guy I was speaking to on Wednesday. Upon hearing the cost of the damages he started getting abusive and saying that it was actually me that hit his driver. I then asked for his company name and other details which he refused to give me.

Have I got any hope in hell of finding this guy with the mobile number he gave me if I report it to the police?

Or shall I just write it off as experience which is of course a depressing thought with a £400 bill a couple of paychecks before Christmas :(

Have you nothing at all to identify the lorry? Any witnesses who might have noticed something that would help?

Unfortunately nothing - happened on a country road near Caversham in Reading so there was no one about.

Looks like you're stuck really then. Worth asking the police and see what advice they might offer. Even if by some amazing detective work you managed to find the guy it'll only be your word against his (via an interpreter by the sound of it) so the best you'd get would be a knock-for-knock type settlement.
