David Lloyd Leisure keep setting Direct Debit up on my business account

Options
I've had a few issues recently with my Santander Business Account, I've had a number of Direct Debits appear which I know for sure haven't been actioned by me.

The most recent one is for David Lloyd Leisure, luckily I keep checking to make sure that nothing gets taken or set-up, but for some reason DLL appears every couple of days with the same reference.

I've tried to call them but due to "Data Protection" no one can help me as the membership number refers to somebody other than me or my business.

Any ideas on this one?

Santander are helpful and have offered to change my bank account number, but we've had the account for 11 years now and to inform everyone who pays us, is a bigger job than cancelling DD's every couple of weeks.

Someone has given David Lloyd!!!8217;s your bank account number. And a few other companies judging by your post.

If you give it out for payments maybe someone!!!8217;s trying to be a pain in your rear end

It!!!8217;s not David Lloyd!!!8217;s fault as they are correct in that they cant discuss someone else!!!8217;s account with you.

Just either continue to cancel it or ask Santander if they can stop DL setting up any direct debits, or ask that you approve every direct debit set up so you can continue to block each and every one. You are covered by the direct debit guarantee so at some point these people will have outstanding amounts on whatever accounts they are setting up

Can Santander not show you the details of the mandate they were sent.

Since they set it up they accept it is you and therefore no DP issues surely!

Would at least make it obvious if it is just an error or malicious.

This is in my view though the most stupid use of data protection. People weither lie or are stupid and give companies wrong data and they refuse to do anythuing about it. DLL should be able to stop this without telling you anything, and to not do so should make them liable for a fine for data abuse.

I feel similar qwhen I get automated messages from british gas asking for a read. The house has never been with BG. phone numbers obviously get reused (fairly quick now as we really need 8 digit ones to have a decent off time after use). But will they listen to me who is not their customer. No. DD's are more annoying but the fact that they just re-try to set it up and not contact the customer is criminal.

I asked Santander about the mandate, but they said that it had been submitted electronically.

Well they usually are, the point was to see what was provided as the customer name, which is always asked.
