Following advice from another forum on here, I have come over to see if you guys can help as I am a complete NOVICE when it comes to computers!! I do the basic stuff, but when it comes to software I am clueless!!! (hence why we got hacked!!)

Our computer did a major crash a while back, losing absolutley everything, and we had to start from stratch loading everything back on, I have only just started to think about the protection for the computer!!!

Basically yesterday morning my OH tried to log in to AOL and his password had been changed, when he went through the procedure of changing it to a new one his email account had loads of emails from admin at an unsavoury site saying his personal website was now ready?? Needless to say we didn't click on any of these!!

Where do I begin?? It says we have Norton Security scan on our desktop but I can't remember putting that on??

We move house in 7 days, so our computer will have to be packed up soon:eek:

HELP!

The fact you are a novice shouldn't really make a difference. Also the fact the pc died a while ago has little to do with the price of fish.

However AOL should be sorting this out for you. You need to ring them and tell them what has happened. AOL normaqlly looks after security & it is them that have been comprimised and not your pc.

However check the security thread on this site and get yourself secured up.

Just thought I would write 'however' one more time,..... oh lets push the boat out, 'However'

Phone AOL to report the issue and it's also worth considering if you had any sensitive information like banking, ebay login details etc. in your webmail. If so, you'll need to go check them out for unusual activity.

There's always the possibility it's just bog standard spam of course.

I would second that - if the same password was used on other logins you should consider changing them.

Have you done a scan for trojans/keyloggers etc ?
