Checking credit rating from abroad/Lowell finance email

Hi everyone,

So I recently got an email out of the blue from Lowell Finance asking me to get in touch because "this email address has been provided to us as a contact address for our customer and therefore we'd like to speak to you regarding a personal matter."
I am confused by this because I've never been in debt with anyone. I've never taken out a loan, I have no credit cards, I've never missed a utility bill etc. But this email seems to suggest that somebody has passed a debt onto this Lowell Finance company! Also, I left the UK five years ago to study in Germany and haven't heard from anybody claiming I owe them money. I'd assume it was a mistake but they have my full name and email address.
Anyway, I'd like to check my credit rating to see if I somehow have a debt somewhere but all the major companies (experian etc) want you to use a UK address, which I don't have, and I don't really want to put in my last UK address because I haven't lived there for five years. Is there a way to see my UK credit rating from abroad? Also, to sign up most of them want a UK bank card or credit card, neither of which I have anymore!

  • Ignore it

They are likely just phishing for information trying to get a bite
  • Yeah that's what I thought. I'll wait and see if they email again. Do companies really do that? Just randomly email people hoping to trick them into paying nonexistent debt?

    People like Lowell do.

They will have someone with a similar email address and or name etc they are looking for and will be blanket approaching random people to get a bite on the hook they are fishing from.

Hopefully some of this c rap will stop when GDPR drops.

  • Lowell (or LowLife as they're sometimes called) do yes, as do some others
