2013 Mk7. 5 Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost engine problems
Hi,
I've got a 2013 fiesta with the 1.0 ecoboost 125bhp engine. Up until last week I've had almost 2 years of trouble free motoring with only just over 19000 miles on the clock.
On the way home from work I had a sudden loss of power and felt almost sluggish. Not quite limp home mode but just didn't have anything there under my foot. The button to manually switch stop/start off illuminated on its own and wouldn't turn off. Thought it to be a bit odd at the time but managed to get it home and safely back on the driveway. Now the engine warning light has flickered and stayed on.
I got hold of a basic Obd2 reader to see what was going on and it indicated a fault code of P0301 Cylinder 1 misfire detected. I promptly swapped out the spark plugs for new and it swiftly fired up, not spluttering and vibrating like it was before. I drove it approximately a mile up the road to get the engine up to temp and noticed the exact same symptoms creeping back in. I took the spark plug back out from cylinder 1 and it was wet with oil! 2 and 3 were bone dry as expected.
I've thrown in the towel in terms of trying to fix this myself. The car is booked into an independent Ford specialist but he can't see it till the 30th May. Just wanted to get a feel if anybody has ever had the same or similar issues and their outcomes. Obviously the car is out of warranty. Serviced at around 10000 miles by Evans halshaw and around 14500 by myself using Ford spec parts and premium synthetic 5w20 oil. I'm fully aware of the coolant 'degas' hose issues that seem to plague these engines too. Thankfully my coolant reservoir is still full and the engine starts on the button just not on all cylinders.
I'm mentally preparing myself for a new engine all be it a second-hand one. Hopefully it won't come to that, fingers crossed!
TIA
Craig

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
You sure it's oil and not petrol?
Just wait for the garage to have a look at it as could still be something simple like a ht lead or something0 -
Thanks, link doesn't yield any results..?0

Thanks, 90% sure, I would link a pic but as I've only just joined it doesn't seem to allow that or quoting. It had the viscosity of oil and was black. Just wish I could get it in sooner to the garage. Suppose its better to have a specialist look at it rather than an generic independent.0

Cheers mate, I'll have a read0

Hi there,
I am currently having exactly the same problem as you! What was your outcome? My fiesta is with Evans Halshaw who have quoted me £5200. Which seems ridiculous for a 2013 car which is probably not worth much more than that in full working order!
Thankyou0 -
Hi
I've been posting on this forum for a while about Ecoboost engines. I have been part of the campaign group that resulted in the BBC coverage recently, and the Ford CEO to announce free engines for all.
But, be careful... the Ford CEO didn't say you need to sign a doc that very very likely prevents any future claims against Ford.
Pls join the Facebook group, which has lots of info that will help you through the nightmare.
FordEcoboostNightmare is the name
Also, see this thread which shows the history of this evolving hell...

Not as great as the zetec engine this ecoboost. If oil is mixing with petrol there is an internal leak and needs a new engine. If the oil level is not decreasing it could be something else.... maybe check the oil cap for clues. I think Ford should have taken the hybrid route but this is a wrong turning for Ford. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Nietzsche
Please note that at no point during this work was the kettle ever put out of commission and no chavs were harmed during the making of this post.0 -

Have a good read of the Facebook group FordEcoboostNightmare you will read tons of accounts of similar issues and how it was all resolved.
Also see #ecoboom for the group legal action to recover losses for Fords design errors.Peace.0
