Fighting un-signposted car park charge letter - Disabled passengers and drivers and card charges

Options
Hello everyone,

First post here as I'm utterly confused and at the end of my tether as what to do.

Myself and sports team mates and we had a game down south and myself and another of my team mates parked around the back of the venue saw no signs anywhere detailing it was pay and display. I stuck teammate's (who I gave a lift down in my car) blue badge in my window and we went inside to get ready for our game.

When fully kitted up for a game another one of our team arrived asking if it was paid parking, to which we were all shocked as we saw no signs. Turned out it was pay and display but friends and family went out and sorted it for us as we couldn't walk much in our kit.

Now nearly a week and a half after the event myself and another team mate have got letters demanding £60 if we pay now or £100 later as apparently we didn't pay, even though we did.

From their trip advisor reviews apparently, you have 5 minutes to get in and pay which with unloading wheelchairs setting them up all kit out of my car and inside would be impossible.

Now trying to fight this as it feels like extortion, but I noticed the following in the corner of the letter...
"Please be advised that all card payments are subject to a £0.50 platform fee"

I thought such charges have been made illegal now? please educate me on this if I am wrong

Apologies again if this is the wrong place.
Thank you

This would be better in the Parking fines etc sub forum of Motoring. Perhaps a board guide could move it there?

If they're only charging for card payments and accept other forms of payments with the additional charge, then yes, you don't need to pay the 50p.
