We’ve just moved in and want to remove the old fashioned electric fire but keep the lovely surround. We’ve pulled it out to find this behind which looks like some kind of grate?? Thing is I want to fill the fireplace with logs to make it more of a feature as we never use a fire anyway but to do this I need a flat wall so can the grate be removed and if so how?? Thanks

It's an air grate to ensure the chimney has a flow of air and prevent damp. It can be removed, but you need to have some type of vent to perform the same function.0

That's just a vent covering an air brick. Unscrew it and throw it away.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
