Hi,
A friend of mine just moved to France and has left her car with me, it is insured and road taxed, she said that I could sell it for her and keep whatever I get for it, she has bought another one in France so has no need of it, I have the log book and a couple of repair receipts, she said she had it valued at we buy any car and they put £1250 against it, the address on the log book is not local to me as its based in Hampshire and we're in London so that might look odd, so in short if I turned up at we buy any car with the log book and once we agreed the sale could I simply just hand the keys, log book and car over and get paid, is it that simple?

Thanks in advance for any replies

As the log book isn't proof of ownership (it's simply a record of who the registered keeper is), I would suggest that you ask your friend if she would send you a letter or an e-mail stating that she is transferring ownership of the vehicle over to you.
This may be enough to keep WBAC happy.

They'll probably want your name on the V5, so I'd get the friend to sign the V5 over to you and then try to sell it as the keeper.

I have sold a car on behalf of a friend before - but privately.
I explained the situation to the buyer and no issues - he had already signed the 'existing keeper' box of the V5.

Get her to email something to show she's handing ownership to you just to cover your back.

I'd agree, but that does mean the existing VED will be cancelled and the OP will need to take it out in their own name (or SORN the car).
