Got a PCN then moved abroad

Hi

I searched around but can't find any info on if I can safely ignore a PCN if I've moved abroad.

Please link me if the answer has already been given. If not then what happens?

Summary

1. Someone driving my car got a PCN in December (private company, land adjacent to a supermarket car-park)
2. I appealed to the parking firm with the standard response - punitive charge etc, + the photos showed the signs were hidden behind a van, and the PCN was sent after the time period where I was obliged to name the driver.
3. They replied saying we're ignoring everything you said.
4. I moved abroad (for a few years at least).
5. I didn't give them any forwarding address, just said I'm moving abroad.

Can they go to small claims court in my absence? Would any successful claim be a problem in future? Any help very much appreciated, thanks!

they could issue court papers to the last KNOWN address , if they do , then it could be costly to get a ccj overturned , you should have given them your new foreign address where they woujld have had problems serving papers to

who is the parking Co involved
  • Thanks for the quick response!

The company is London Parking Solutions. I meant to follow up but new job, life, etc, got in the way.

Is it still worth contacting them with my new foreign address, or better to just ignore it after this long?
(Seems like I need to start googling CCJ's whilst abroad, and if they can take money from UK bank accounts)

This is how I finished my response to them:

"Finally, I moved out of the address you have for me earlier this week. I am imminently leaving the country permanently to work abroad. As such I won’t receive any further letters you send, so my apologies that this will be my final correspondence with you."

I had their first letter forwarded but then my mail forwarding ended.

Give them the foreign address. A ccj in your absence could end up being a pain in the rear.

A foreign address means they are stuffed.

Send one like this, because MCOL is moving to email service of claims (yikes, awful - I must change the appeal wording to prohibit PPCs from using the email addy used for appeal, for later service of court docs!):

You need to make it crystal clear that service of court docs is ONLY to that postal address abroad and NOT by email or to any other method or address.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
